Maryland’s skunk cabbage flowers pop out of the damp forest floor in winter, offering busy honey bees a little pollen snack to get them through cold early spring days. Bonnie Ott took this shot of the strange-looking blossoms that are one of the first spring food sources for bees and other pollinators. The plant is named for the smell of its skunky blossoms.
